When telling him the topic of this special issue, Kawashiri Ren said l like to think Oh, it’s good. “What is human” is (for) me “Living while valuing something”. The talk might become long, is that alright?” and laughed. It seems like he also has talked with the members about life. “I’m often talking with Junki. Junki and me are pretty much the right opposite and we have different ideas, so I became curious about what he thinks and how he lives. There are also times when I’m impressed thinking “wow“, or when I think “there is something like that?” and that’s interesting. Recently, what he’s thinking alone about is the survival method in the artist world. “Aren’t there various contests in one’s life? Tests, matches, especially auditions and so on. I think of the artist world as a world of contests, so I have to continue to win. But I’m not a genius and if there is something I’m good in there is also something I’m not good in. When I don’t want to lose in those, I keep on thinking what I should do. The conclusion is “it should be the fights I can win”. There are two patterns: the method to bring out my skills to the front and the method to prevent the other one from succeeding. When I can use those well, I think I can continue to win. For this, first, it’s important to know of your strengths and weaknesses. For example, I’m not a funny talker and I’m not the type to go out and fool around, so there are also times when I can’t do variety activities. However, I often get praised for the big reactions, so (I think) I should bring this out. That’s what I’m thinking about night after night. When we ask about a manic way on how to enjoy “Born To Be Wild” in which JAM “can win” over other JAM… This time during their parts, the members thought of the gestures themselves. I think everyone might try out various expressions and movements at different occasions, so wouldn’t it be interesting to search for those as if you were looking for mistakes?
“I try to proactively communicate with people. Language is a weapon that only humans have. Because it would be a waste if you don’t use it.”
I think to change the common sense and to make the entertainment industry more interesting, it’s necessary to do “strange” things. I hope that also the future me will be someone who “is appreciated besides being strange” without forgetting the feeling of taking on a challenge like right now.
