In March one year has passed since the start of your activities as JO1. What has changed the most for you? When we recorded the 3rd single my hair colour became dark… Since the time of the audition my hair was in a light colour the whole time, so it seemed to be something refreshing for the fans of course but also for the members. Until the first album the concept was “stars”, so I had them in a light colour fitting to that image, but because the single this time is “CHALLENGER”, I felt I should challenge something. I thought it would be nice to show a new me, so I also asked the people around my for advice and tried to make them dark! Because the dye has faded, it ended up being light again however (laughs).
Well, please tell us about your favourite song from that “challenging” 3rd single “CHALLENGER”. I really like the lead track “Born To Be Wild”. It fits perfectly to the title of the single “CHALLENGER”. This single has the theme of “the challenge towards the unknown world”, so we sing this song with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety, we challenge the things right in front of us. “Born To Be Wild” became a support song for the people who are afraid of challenging something and gives them a push forward, thus I hope that people who challenge something will listen to it!
As JO1 dance leader you showcase flawless dance performances each time. Is there something “I hope you pay attention to this” in the dance of “Born To Be Wild” which has its MV released some time ago? Following the title, there is a choreography that is wild and like starting the engine of a bike, there are powerful steps and steps that are like embarking towards the new world, so I hope you pay attention to those.
A winter tour has been decided. It will be a chance to be able to meet JAM for the first time in a while, but is there something “see this part of me”? It’s not about me, it’s about everyone in this group, but isn’t it that nowadays we are mainly seen as video footage such as online lives or music videos? In videos the movement on the screen tends to be created by the cut ratio and use. I think it’s one of the highlights of it, so you watch the whole live from a fixed point, don’t you. But during the tour, I hope we can convey the energy and the member’s feelings of live performance in a way that you don’t think “Videos were better”.!
Please tell us about your favourite way to spend time at home. I eat broccoli. Recently, I like it a lot and I keep eating it… It’s healthy and above all tasty. I’m eating chicken ham and broccoli for dinner recently. Because it’s healthy and delicious, I can recommend it! From time to time, the members bring something together and we eat together. A dish I can do well is “Taco Rice”. The receipt is perfectly saved into my brain, so I can cook it on the spot. Other than that, on my free days, I took up vocal lessons on my own and “practise in secret” (laughs).
Is there something you want to eat when you return home to your hometown Fukuoka? Of course, my mother’s cooking! My favourite menu is hamburgers. The hamburgers my mother makes are soft and very delicious. Please try those (laughs)
In reference to the song “Tsutaerareru nara” (If I can tell you), is there something you would like to say to a JO1 member now or after all this? Well, to Sho… When we first met during the audition, he seemed like someone who wanted to get along with everyone, so he naturally started conversations with a lot of people. Especially because of that, I thought “He is a very optimistic older brother…” Nowadays he is a truly kind older brother and we often go out together, yet I haven’t told him this (laughs).
