From the group JO1 which is also rapidly gaining attention in the beauty world right now, the beautiful men trio of Ohira Shosei, the beauty ikemen, Kawanishi Takumi, the national treasure ikemen, and Kawashiri Ren, the sexy ikemen, have arrived!

Ohira Shosei
In charge of beauty in the group. Quickly tries out new beauty trends and raises JO1’s beauty standard as a whole. You will fall in his swamp thanks to his gap of being an elegant beauty from Kyoto on the first glance but actually being super stoic.

Kawashiri Ren
Dance leader. Attention worthy are his gaze which carries a unique sexappeal and his overwhelming dancing. No matter when you stop a MV or PV he is beautiful so make sure (to check him out)

Kawanishi Takumi
National treasure ikemen. He is an allrounder who makes use of his sense in singing, dancing and rapping. He has a reputation to have a decisive power in his expression management on stage.

Make up is also a part of the performance It is a mission to have a stage appropriate skin care management

Takumi: We are a Japanese boy group but we often perform songs that are produced in South Korea. Hence it’s a given that we wear make up similar to K-POP, so our aesthetic sense is high!
Shosei: We are also strongly particular regarding beautiful skin. I put emphasis on face washing. Even on days when I’m just using UV block, I remove the make up -> wash my face -> remove the dirt from my pores with a facial care device. Because when too much corneum piles up, moisturizing cosmetics will not be soaked up the skin. Recently, I am using a booster day and night to increase the soaking power.
Takumi: I have sensitive skin, so in the morning I intentionally wash my face with lukewarm water to protect the barrier function of the skin. Since I heard from Shosei that it’s bad when the water to wash your face is too cold or too hot, I faithfully abide by it (laughs).
Ren: I also have sensitive skin. In order to make it hard for my skin to get irritated, my skin care is to moisturise and vitalise! Every evening, after using a moisturizing sheet mask, I use a cover with dermatological prescribed vaseline. When the skin seems irritated, you can also mix the vaseline with soothing cica cream.
Takumi: We all frequently visit the dermatologist. I think having a favourite dermatologist is essential for beautiful skin.
Shosei: I like using tea tree sheet masks with a soothing effect every evening. I think pretty much all JO1 members use sheet masks every evening. All the 11 members have different skin tones and textures and there is also an age gap. There is not one right answer to a beautiful skin and everyone got something they think of as the best! for themselves.
Takumi: Our skin care philosophy is pursuing a beautiful skin that makes “you feel comfortable of yourself and prosperous” while learning from the dermatologist, the stylists and the members!

I think trying out new makeup enriches my life!
This time I tried purple makeup for the first time, and it made my heart beat faster as I was surprised how good it looked! I like trying out new makeup and I even ordered the stylist “I want to try using pink”. I thought cold colours would be difficult since I have a warm skin tone… but I was happy to learn a stylish and easy way to draw a line at the corner of my eyes! On a side note, my hands have a cold skin tone and my face a warm one (laughs). Hence, I guess when I research new makeup I often actually try it on my face first while consulting with the stylist. My stance regarding makeup is that my own theory of “It’s better to know”. Rather than worrying too much “would it suit me” and doing the same makeup over and over, I think my life is enriched by discovering a new me and even if I make mistakes, and being able to provide information to a lot of people.
Shosei OHIRA

I’m currently hooked on the magic of makeup that instantly draws you into the world view of the song!
In my school years I had a shaved head and devoted myself to baseball, after my graduation I worked as a buggy engineer and then I challenged the audition. During the audition it was pretty much the first time I used makeup, but nowadays I am a guy interested in beauty who is hooked on makeup. This time the makeup might be close to what I normally wear for media appearances. I like the natural bare look of my skin that makes me look like myself, so the point is the foundation. Highlighter was thinly applied at various places and it gave my skin a glowing finish. The deep berry brown lip colour looks great, right? Some time ago, Shosei produced the stage makeup for all members for the song “YOLO-konde”. I got dark pierrot makeup and it raised my excitement! When you want to fall into the world of the song, the magic of makeup is essential!
Takumi KAWANISHI

Eye shadow makeup that makes my distinctive eyes shine is my destined partner
After the debut the stylist told me “Rather than eyeliner, well applied eyeshadow suits you better”, so I like eyeshadow. Also today I’m in charge of the eyeshadow, so it feels like destiny (laughs). For the three different costumes of the 2nd album, everyone wears sparkling makeup with glitter that fits to each outfit, but for some reason I’m the only one who has glitter on his hair and not on his face for all outfits (laughs). Hence, I was glad to have sparkling makeup here! Is it eye catching makeup? Where could it be… You might look at my eyebrows.
Also, there are people who wear coloured mascara, right? Is colour layer also popular? So the point is the colour makeup of the hairs around your eyes! This might suddenly become popular in JO1 (laughs).
Ren KAWASHIRI

The concept of BiST is “I want you to smile widely into the mirror without fearing time”. What is beauty for you?
Shosei: I think it is something inseparable from one’s life. It is something that is always close to you. I always want to brightly smile in the mirror, so I want to stay particular about beauty. So I sympathise with this concept.
Ren: Because beauty is a saviour and a support item that gives you confidence. If my skin is irritated during a shooting, I will end up thinking “I don’t want to show the irritated side…”. At such times foundation saves me. On the other hand, when I’m praised “Your skin is pretty” or “The makeup suits you”, I gain confidence.
Takumi: Sure enough it makes me happy to feel pretty and be complimented on my beauty efforts. I feel it brightens my mood, makes the work merrier and makes it easier for me to communicate with my surroundings!

What do you think will happen when you come to grips with beauty and become beautiful?
Shosei: Your self esteem will rise. When your self esteem rises, a happy aura will emerge, which makes the people around happy, too. I think if you are looking after yourself and feel happy, happy people will gather around you.
Takumi: Right. No matter if you are old, young, male or female, if everyone becomes pretty and feels happy, the world will become a brighter place!

As the days of not being able to meet other people carefreely and the life of wearing masks continue, it might be that people lose confidence. Are there also fans who feel timid at the online talk events (events where you can talk to a member via an online connection)?
Ren: There are. People have told me “I’m sorry”. But, I always think “You perfectly conveyed it. I see that”. At the online talks I talk to about 1000 people at the most in one day, but everyone takes a lot of preparations for us including beauty treatments… When I see the people who came to see us (online), I can feel their hard work for this moment and how much effort they put into their beauty. I want you to know that not just me but all kinds of people around you regularly “look at you”. Because the time you used to prepare to be beautiful is an investment to turn your life into the right direction! I want to honestly face every single of them each time, so… beauty helps me a lot, too. For example, I sometimes get requests “Can you come closer to the screen and show me your eyes?”. In the past I did not like my eyes, but the fans discovered them and told me “I like them” a lot, so I grew to like them… So I’m really happy when I can show people who want to see my eyes which are made cooler by makeup and make them smile.

Beauty nowadays enriches the lives of men and women of all ages, right?
Takumi: I think in any way it is important to enjoy beauty. It also applies for men pursuing people like us. I also want to become more beautiful. There is no gain in being scared of aging. Let’s enjoy becoming beautiful all together with us and BiST.
