Kawashiri Ren
Born in the prefecture Fukuoka in 1997. His member colour is blue. He has a personal history of working as a back dancer and choreographer. In JO1 he is the dance leader and leads the group in the aspect performances by guiding the members in dancing.

I want to be someone who is like “JO1’s spice”.

JO1’s dance leader Kawashiri Ren. Since the audition his dancing abilities are outstanding, and the members are also looking up to him. That Kawashiri is overflowing with ambitions “I want to bring out not only dancing but also another me.”
Especially because our first released single this year is “CHALLENGER”, I feel like I want to challenge a lot of things I haven’t done yet. You might think that my weapon is dancing, but I want to try to make other aspects like singing, rapping, songwriting and so on to be seen while raising my dance abilities. Right now, together with Syoya, Junki and Sukai I’m studying how to write songs. Maybe one day they might see the light of the day…!? -laughs- In my private life, my goal is to become able to master technology.-laughs- Actually, I’m not good with that. Because I want to change that side of me, I recently purchased an Apple Watch. I still don’t understand how to use it, but if I use it I might become able to understand it somehow -laughs- Syoya is good with this, so he often teaches me.

Kawashiri who continues to challenge new things, continues to advance not only in dancing but also in the aspect of singing and reliably supports the group.
I think I’m someone who is like “JO1’s spice”. My voice is quite high and my singing voice is also delicate and that’s a different voice quality compared to the other members, so it’s often that it’s often used when the atmosphere of the song changes a lot. Since the current single, I feel like I’ve become able to make use of this kind of voice or this spice. The Korean seniors have a voice that pierces through directly, but my voice is one that lightly floats. Without killing that characteristic, with all my might I’m creating a singing voice that when showcased in Japan or even worldwide I won't be ashamed of it. Hence, I would be happy if you also pay attention to my singing.

When asked what changed since his debut, he broadly grinned “my hair colour maybe?”
Since the audition I had a silverish colour the whole time, so that image was really strong. The members also hardly had the chance to see me with a dark colour, so they might think of it as refreshing. Dear JAM, which colour do you like? -laughs- As the dance leader there are moments when I feel like that the members have changed. Some time ago, for that project, there was the opportunity to dance Mugendai in collaboration with an entertainer. There is a choreography that doesn’t work unless Ruki moves in a rush, but exactly that entertainer was at this line. When I thought “What shall we do?”, I changed the formation according to the circumstances and the members responded appropriately and I thought that’s it. I felt that there was growth because they were able to respond instantly while dancing. It’s promising that the number of members who point out misalignments during the practise and tell me about it is increasing.

What is the focus on the future of JO1 who continue to grow and always aim for the top?
I want to do my best to do the work and stages right before me without being bound by places or strings, and I want to work hard to reach the top of Japan and the world one day! Our activities started when the events for our debut single were canceled. I think I want to return the favour to all JAM who waited for us the whole time. That’s why, please continue to believe in us and wait for us!
