[JO1] Laugh & Peace News Magazine 201224

(the original page was deleted)

A character change right before the actual recording?!
First of all, what did you think when you were casted for this work?
Because I love anime, I was really happy. JO1 does a lot of activities as a group, so there isn’t much individual work, but that my first solo work was a “movie” felt so big, and I couldn’t help but look forward to that.

What kind of impression do you have of Denis who you are voicing?
He is docile at any rate, but he does the things he has to do.

The fact is that he acts together with his friends like Antonio, but are there any similarities between Denis’ actions inside his group and your ones in JO1?
I think the feeling of objectively looking at the things that happened right in front of your eyes is similar.

Voice actors only express themselves by their voices and not by performances or acting. How did you prepare?
I practised the dubbing of a different anime, I was able to practise with another voice actor and did various lessons. When I saw the live acting of a voice actor in person, I thought “the voice is a musical instrument”.
However, I practised diligently like that, created a voice that suited anime and went to the recording side, but in the actual studio, all of sudden the character changed completely -laughs- The director told me “He’s someone who doesn’t have any interest other than himself...” If anything, he became a character who is monotone and mumbles. Because it was the exact opposite of what I practised until then, so it was difficult to adapt, but I think I was able to do so.

Is there any memorable episode of the dubbing?
There was a scene in which I was screaming “A” with a voiced consonant, but I haven’t done something like that until now, so I wondered “what should I do?”. But Nishino came to my booth and showed me an example. “You should do it like that”, he told me. After that I recorded that screaming scene more than 20 times, and my manager also told me “You don’t need to ruin your throat” -laughs- I worked that hard.

The joy of “acting” that was felt during voice actor challenge
The main character Lubicchi believes that there are stars above the black clouds of the town. He has a charm of “straightforwardness” , but which JO1 member is the most Lubicchi-like?
This might be me -laughs- among the members, there are a lot of people who used to live a normal life before taking the audition, but I have prepared for years and chased my dreams, so I wonder if that’s similar.

You also believed that your dream comes true and you vocalised it.
I vocalised it, worked towards it and experienced a lot of failures. Lubicchi words seem like he saw my old self -laughs- so I sympathise with him a lot.

>While chasing your dreams, was there something that broke your heart?
It happened that I was at the bottom of my life and that I was depressed, but I didn’t give up. Since I was younger I believed that “there is nothing that humans can’t do”. Finally, that’s my determination.

After being involved in an anime, do you have the desire to continue working as a voice actor?
This time it was a recording based on my natural voice, so next time I would like to act as a character with an exaggerated voice. Excluding this, when I challenged acting in the MV of “OH-EH-OH”, I started to like acting, so in the future, I would like to try to expand my vision and to do actors' work.

Thinking about the 1st anniversary, JO1 “until now”
Soon JO1 will reach its first anniversary since formation. Looking back, how was it?
Too deep. It’s packed with about 3 years and I felt that I grew.

This year on April 20th you turned 20 years old and this year was a turning point, right?
I’ve decided that becoming 20 years old means that “I’ll become mature.” While I was a teenager, I felt like that “daydreaming is fine too”, but once I become an adult I will do it properly. However, doing it earnestly the whole time isn’t interesting, so I hope that when I show humanity, JAM will also enjoy this.

Well then, what was the most impressive job as JO1 so far?
It’s “Poupelle of Chimney Town”. Before the debut, I didn’t have any comrades like JO1 who chased their dreams with me, and I was giving my best alone all the time, so it feels like I’ve returned to the past. Surprisingly, I would like to announce that “I also do it reliably”.

What is your goal from the second year onwards?
It might take some time, but I would like to be a model for skin care and make-up. Also when I’m a bit older, if I can become an adult who looks good in suits, I would like to try to become a model for menswear. Then I will stop dyeing my hair blond -laughs- I want Jam to enjoy the current Ohira Shosei.
