Interview with OWV's Urano Shuta and Sano Fumiya! "Since becoming part of the group I was able to discover new sides of myself"
Q1: Since debuting on September 30 last year with the single “UBA UBA”, what left an impression on you or what kind of change did you feel? Shuta: The most memorable event was OWV’s first online live concert which took place on December 27th last year. Also since we made our debut we couldn’t stand in front of our fans because of the corona pandemic and there was something online, but after all lives are the main axis as an artist, thus it stays in my heart. We were able to show a lot of songs and performances, and we also did a talk corner, thus it was so much fun! Fumiya: If I talk about changes, it’s that I came to understand myself more… Before making the debut, the fans who supported us since the audition program were each on their own. But by becoming a group, I can see and hear about the image of OWV’s Sano Fumiya from a wider range now, for example how I’m seen by Shuta’s fans, so it became easier to grasp “ah! I’m seen like this.” Shuta: Was there something unexpected? Fumiya: Since I became a member of OWV, people started to call me something like “cute”. No one ever told me that, so I was a little surprised -laughs- Shuta: Sano is cool, but recently you can get a glimpse of his cute side. Fumiya: Katsu-kun and Shuta are tall, so when I’m sandwiched between them, I think I end up being something like “cute”... Shuta: That’s right. Like a mascot -laughs- Fumiya: I think there is also some messing around with me being “cute”, but I feel like that I discovered a new side that I had never thought of.
The goal is to become a long-loved group
Q2: What is OWV’s strength? Shuta: It’s the point that we are easy to remember after the first glance, because all hair colours are different. We have red, blue, yellow and black. Even when you can’t remember the names and faces right away, OWV can leave an impression. Fumiya: Even the staff calls us by colours -laughs- Also, our strength is that we know defeat. And, because we are 4 people who experienced failure at the program, even when we are facing a new wall, we have the mind that we can overcome it. Shuta: Even when we fail, we won’t be depressed. Fumiya: All 4 members are like that. Shuta: However, we might be the two most positive ones -laughs-
Q3: What is popular in the group right now? Shuta: Hm~ taking pictures secretly? Fumiya: ahahahah! Shuta: It’s often that we end up becoming nervous and we are not able to show our natural sides on camera, but we usually do weird things. Because we think that it could be funny if those things are recorded, we are having fun by secretly recording it. We shoot in a dokkiri/ hidden camera style and threaten (the other members) -laughs- We watch and laugh about those videos together. Fumiya: But we are completely free, so there is zero audience. Shuta: Also today at the make up room of the studio, I secretly took a picture of Fumiya eating. Fumiya: I was secretly shoot when eating an Onigiri -laughs-
Q4: What kind of OWV’s charms will be packed into the 3rd single “Roar” that is released on March 31st? Fumiya: It’s a “that’s OWV” song. I feel that we can showcase power, a mischievous feeling and the provoking atmosphere of 4 people (saying) “Let’s do this!” as much as we want. Shuta: The strong feeling that we can reach the submit in our own way is included. Fumiya: In the lyrics, there are the words “I will not be contained”, but just as stated we want to become a unique group.” Shuta: Also the choreography became a wild and intense dance with the motive of a lion. It was the hardest one until now -laughs- Fumiya: Please watch the 4 members' overwhelming performances!
Q5: Please tell us about your goals and dreams either as OWV or your personal ones. Shuta: After all. We want to do an actual live at the Budokan and not online. And one day, doing a performance in front of the people who love us at an arena or dome. Furthermore, we want to become a group that is long loved. Fumiya: That’s right. As a group what Shuta has said is the collective will. Personally… I think my current distinctive characteristic and impression have a strong image of dancing. That’s why, I would like to be able to acquire various skills and lead the group in terms of dancing so that people will say “He’s almighty, isn’t he?”.
Their specialty in chores is “cleaning”. Both like it clean!
Q6: Please tell us about Sano’s true nature. Shuta: Unexpectedly Fumiya is a big eater. He is usually cool about it, but when he says “I can eat a lot today”, it will be easy to understand (why) and he gets excited -laughs- Of course that’s when there is Yakiniku or other delicious food in front of him, but when there is a lot, he will smile. It’s Quantity over Quality. Fumiya: The quantity is important -laughs- I have the smallest stature of the members, but I’m the biggest eater by far. If it’s Pizza, I end up eating 2 L sized ones. Shuta: Isn’t that the amount for 8 people? In the later half of your 20s, people might say something like “Fumiya, you really gained weight!” Then, you should join ESSE’s diet special feature. Fumiya: Please take care of me -laughs- TN: it depends on the store but a L size Pizza has a diameter of about 33 cm.
Q7: Please tell us about Urano’s true nature. Fumiya: Shuta is stoic about comedy. For example, when I watch videos of various artists to raise my spirits before performing, just he watches videos of Kato Cha and Nishikawa Kiyoshi. Shuta: True -laughs- Of course, I’m also watching performance videos, but right now I want to polish my comedy sense. I have loved old fashioned comedy since my childhood. Fumiya: He is the type who is good in entertaining and soothing people, and making them trust him, isn’t he? TN: Kato Cha is a Japanese comedian, actor and drummer of the band/comedy group ‘The Drifters’ currently signed under Izawa Office. Nishikawa Kiyoshi is a Japanese comedian, actor and former politician. He was part of the House of Councillors (the upper house) from 1986-2004, but now he has resumed his entertainment career. Signed under Yoshimoto Kogyo. They were both born in the 1940s.
Q8: Please tell us about your speciality in chores. Fumiya: I’m pretty much cleaning every day. I’m using the vacuum cleaner, the lint roller and the ventilation. I’m also cleaning the water drops on the mirror in my bathroom with a special wiper. Shuta: I’m also often cleaning my room. I like to keep things tidy and in order. I hang my favourite hats on the wall and fold all those shop paper bags neatly -laughs-
Q9: How do you normally spend your free days? Fumiya: When I just started living alone, when I wanted to make Ochazuke, it ended up becoming something like a risotto. This absolutely broke my heart -laughs- (That’s why) I’m not cooking by myself, so the time when I think “What should I eat today~” and search for takeout on my smartphone is happiness. Because after all, eating is what I enjoy the most. Shuta: Breaks are to polish yourself I think. Recently, I steadily use oil based skin lotion, serums, body milk and skin care and everyday I drink 2 liters of water. I started to do massages and yoga to rest my body! TN: Ochazuke is a japanese dish made by pouring green tea over cooked rice. Common toppings include pickles, umeboshi, salted salmon, scallions and wasabi.
