Asking YSL’s official beauty partner JO1 about their latest beauty situation
The global boy group "JO1" is gaining momentum as they celebrate their first anniversary since debuting. While expanding the range of activities such as attending luxury brand fashion events, it also became a topic that they were appointed as the official beauty partner of "Yves Saint Laurent Beauty" (hereinafter, YSL) last year. These JO1 members will appear at the new colour release event of the cushion foundations "Uncle de Paul Cushion N Collector" and "Rouge Volupte Shine". We asked the members about changes after becoming a beauty partner and their beauty sense.
It’s the 3rd time you attend a YSL event. Ren: When we attend a YSL event, our backs are stretched. They always perfectly create a chic event side that expresses the brand’s world view, so we have to straighten up. Ruki: It’s cool how each time the designs of the costumes and the products match. Issei: I think this time they are especially wonderful. Having the YSL typically black as a base, there are gold accents and wearing those makes you feel excited. Sukai: I think that the huge accessories I’m wearing today, fit the gold Cassandra logo designed on YSL’s packaging.
What is the point of your make up today? Ren: The theme for my eye make up is PP. Issei: PP? Ren: They applied 2 shades of purple eyeshadows from the “Couture Colour Clutch Nr. 1” colour palette that was made from the image of Paris. That’s why it’s PP make up. My hair is light purple, so it matched.
The lip colour that looks like a natural colour also looks lovely. Sukai: On the lips, “Lush Volume Shine” was applied, but the mango smell seems delicious, so I end up licking it -laughs- Ruki: For me, from a new colour of Lush Volume Shine a beige and a red colour were applied over another. Because of the stylish impression, I wondered at first whether it would suit me, but I felt refreshed that by using an unusual colour, my individuality came out and I feel like I’ve met a new me.
Do you have a specialisation regarding beauty? Issei: Recently, when using cleansing, I’m not scrubbing it, but I gently clean it off. Ruki: It's better to mix a little water and emulsify it to remove it. Issei: To emulsify it. I didn’t know that -laughs- Also, Shosei-kun taught me that after washing my face I try to wipe away the water with kitchen paper instead of a towel. I feel like my skin condition has improved since then.
Was there something in your mind that changed by becoming the official beauty partner? Junki: I started to pay attention to the state of my skin. That’s why the public order (state) of my skin is really good right now. Takumi: I think the beauty sense of all members was raised. We became enthusiastic after taking up that position and I’m confident that my skin condition is good. It might be my own impression, but I feel like our performances also improved. Syoya: I feel the same.
Do you have a routine? Junki: Because I bought a facial care device, if I have some free time, I will roll it on my face. I’ve never used it myself before, so it feels good and it became my favourite recently. Takumi: I apply lip cream and drink water before sleeping. When I do this, my lip condition is clearly good after waking up.
What is your favourite lip colour? Syoya: When my hair was dark, a bluish red was often applied. It seems like that my hair and skin colour were very compatible and my appearance became brilliant. Recently, my hair has been a light colour, so I’m using more slightly subdued colours to unify the overall tone. Junki: I like it when it looks like a natural skin colour, so a little red or beige is good. Takumi: I like the colour that was used today. What do you call it… I think it’s a mix of pink and coral, but it was a natural finish, so it doesn’t feel weird.
What did you think when you used “Encre de Peau Le Cushion N Collector”? Keigo: Actually, I used it even before being called for YSL events, but I like the good balance of cover strength and natural skin feeling. I feel like that after the renewal of the product last year, it matches the skin even better. Sho: The packing is also cool. The standard product has a chic design in vegan leather, but I also thought that the design of the limited edition that is studded with big gold threads also had a strong presence and it is lovely. Choosing a pack that makes you excited is also a way to enjoy beauty items, isn’t it?
Who is JO1’s beauty leader? Shion: Absolutely Shosei. Some time ago he even had a solo appearance in a beauty magazine. Shosei: I’m embarrassed that this has become the common knowledge for everyone, but I’m happy. Keigo: But you don’t give any beauty information to the members -laughs- Sho: It’s not like he shares various things actively, but from time to time during the make up he comments “The colour suits you, Sho-kun.” Shosei: Inside of my heart I’m often thinking “that colour looks like it suits so-and-so”. I don’t say it each time, but I just talk about it when there is a colour that I’m interested in.
3 months have passed since you became the official beauty partner, but what do you truly think about that? Shion: It’s embarrassing, but I was careless about beauty before. After talking to the YSL staff, I reviewed my skincare and I’m glad I’m getting less acne now.
